I started using Google Chrome this week, as it was recently released for macs. And I must say I’m impressed with it’s speed and usability. I’m even more impressed by the 11 short films that Google has created to support it’s launch.
The approach reminds me of the very successful adiColor campaign that ran a few years back – adidas briefed several young directors to come up with their interpretation of each of the colours in the range. The clips were distributed via an adidas video blog and were seeded using an influencer strategy.
Google have committed to a similar approach – the videos were produced by a diverse array of designers, illustrators and small creative shops such as Motion Theory, Go Robot and Hunter Gatherer. The original animated short “You and Your Browser” was created by Cristoph Niemann who is an illustrator for The New Yorker.
The result is a string of clips which place Google Chrome at the centre of highly engaging narratives. As we know, content is king and this approach by Google is a great example of a brand harnessing this truth to their own advantage.
Here are a few of my favorite clips, you can watch them all on the Google Chrome YouTube Channel here
